After graduating from the Kent School in Connecticut, Farrelly studied business at Providence College, where he faired rather poorly as a student while excelling at partying. Despite his shiftless lifestyle, Farrelly did harbour a desire to become a writer. Following a brief stint in Las Vegas, where he wrote like a maniac, Farrelly returned to the East Coast where he finished his first novel.

Farrelly graduated from Columbia with a master’s in fine arts and moved to Los Angeles soon after, where he began writing screenplays. Not long after his arrival in the City of Angels, Farrelly landed a development deal with writing partner, Bennett Yellin, and later was joined by brother Bobby. The two – who collectively became known as the Farrelly Brothers.

Together with his brother they have written, directed, and produced several comedy films including There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, Shallow Hal, Me Myself & Irene, Stuck on You, Fever Pitch, Hall Pass, The Three Stooges as well as their latest release Dumb and Dumber To.
